House interiors with a traditional swing, Kollam
A family house in Kollam: a traditional wooden oonjal swing beside backlit fluted panels and a wall-mounted TV unit, an L-shaped modular kitchen in champagne gloss, and bedrooms with full-height wardrobes and built-in study desks.
The brief mixed Kerala tradition with a clean modern finish. The living room keeps a classic wooden oonjal (swing) as its centrepiece, framed by backlit vertical slat partitions that screen the stair and the pooja area without closing them off. Black granite floors reflect the warm cove lighting.
The kitchen is an L-shaped layout in cream high-gloss shutters with brass-tone edge detailing, glass-fronted wall units, a built-in chimney and a window over the sink. Each bedroom got a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe with an integrated study desk and open shelving, finished in soft white with LED ceiling coves.
Modules were produced at Vizhavoor and installed by the Kollam crew in nine working days.
